Developing a story games to support reading, oracy and team work for 8 to 12 year-olds:

This is my current focus. This will be an educational resource for 8 to 12 year-olds at school and at home. I am collaborating with Dr Julien Morton from London Southbank University. As the resource develops, there are useful opportunities for research. We are currently in a testing phase in primary schools in North Devon. The working title for the game is Crank, Imma and the Keeper.

Teacher and teacher trainer:

I have taught learners from 3 years-old to 80 plus for more than 40 years. I have supported teachers in the classroom, in colleges and through many aspects of their training since 1990.

Supporting art at King’s College, Cambridge:

I am currently an Associate of King’s College, University of Cambridge, where I support students, Fellows and staff who wish to make art. The Art Rooms at King’s have a vibrant creative culture.

International Arts Education Consultant:

I work with Cambridge International Education, part of the Cambridge University Press and Assessment at the University of Cambridge. I support school curriculum development in arts subjects in different countries. I have recently supported projects for Kazakhstan, Ethiopia, UAE and Mongolia.

Working in education research:

My monograph for Palgrave Macmillan, ‘Observational Filmmaking for Education: Digital video practices for researchers, teachers and children‘, was published in March 2019.

I have a PhD from the University of Cambridge (2017). I worked in the Faculty of Education. From October 2017 to July 2019, I was a Visiting Researcher at the University of Barcelona developing an observational film pilot research project in Barcelona primary schools with the Faculty of Fine Arts and Faculty of Education. In 2015, I was a visiting Fellow at Austrailia National University in Canberra.

An author of books supporting Primary School teachers teach art:

Between 1993 and 2012, I authored five books about teaching art in primary schools, including: ‘Teaching Art Ages 7-11’ and ‘Creativity and Culture, Art Projects for Primary Schools’. I also produced resource packs for BBC Education and Crayola.

Working as an artist:

As an artist I had two shows in 2023. From June to September 2023, I exhibited sculptures at Celler Carles Andreu de Pira, Tarragona, Catalunya. In April 2023, I had my first show in almost 30 years at Escoles Velles, Begur, Catalunya.

In 2021, I was a mentee as part of the New Art School with the wonderful support of my mentor the Scottish contemporary artist Karla Black.

I was a member of the I Found U artists’ collective until 2024. This new group of artists met when resident artists at School of Visual Art in New York (SVA NYC) in 2020. As a member of the collective I participated in visual arts projects in Australia, Uruguay, California, Cambridge UK, Germany and Illinois.

I was a Resident Artist in the summer programme at the School of Visual Art in New York (SVA NYC) in July and August 2020.

I began my adult life studying art at art school in 1975, completing an MFA at Newcastle University in 1985. I also have a Masters by Research degree from the University of East Anglia. I only consistently began work as an artist again in 2019. 

Working as a director of property companies:

I part own and manage two property business that rent commercial and residential units in Brighton and Cirencester. These businesses provide the bulk of my income.
